There are a number of 'small boats' held at the Historic Dockyard, the majority of them stored in Number 3 Slip apart from HMS Cavalier's Cutter and a replacement 3-in-1 Whaler which are in the respective Starboard and Port side davits aboard HMS Cavalier. The Cutter and Whaler have been extensively restored the Cutter being the original in service with HMS Cavalier until she decommissioned. The Whaler was obtained approximately two years ago to replace one that we very badly rotted and is a good facsimile of the Whaler which was used by HMS Cavalier when she was in service. Restoration of the Cutter was completed in time for the unveiling of the Destroyer Memorial and dedication of HMS Cavalier as a Memorial Ship, in November 2007. The Whaler's hull is made from GRP (or Glassfibre) and when it arrived was generally sound but badly in need of restoration. The engine was removed and has been placed in store with the hull cleaned, woodwork repaired or replaced where necessary, duckboards removed and cleaned/repaired and the whole vessel repainted. The photo to the right shows the arrival at the dockyard of the Whaler, on a low loader having been collected from it's previous owner (apparently a former captain of a RN ship) at Southampton. The pictures below show it prior to work commecning and in restored condition. The following sequence of photographs show the various boats stored in Number 3 Slip.
